Who Should Enroll?
The online workshop series has been designed as a professional development opportunity for Pre-K-12 school-based leaders including principals, assistant principals, department heads, coaches, teacher leaders, and teachers.
Workshop Description:
This workshop will provide participants with the practical tools and reflective opportunities to evaluate and adjust classroom texts and instruction to address instances of bias. In part 1 of this 90-minute workshop, participants will first acknowledge that bias persists in our classrooms and that there are multiple avenues for disrupting bias. Leaders and teachers will review and analyze David Sadker’s 7 Forms of Bias and textual examples for each. In Part 2, participants will then actively participate in decision making around their own curricular texts and consider alternatives approaches in mitigating detected bias.

After participating in this session, educators will:
- Recognize our own identities and perspectives and better understand how these may shape our teaching practices and mitigate bias
- Investigate the 7 Forms of Bias and examples
- Apply a critical literacy lens and an anti-bias protocol to classroom texts - Turnkey components of anti-bias protocol for use in participants’ various communities
Certification of Completion:
Please note that all participants from outside Boston College will not receive academic credit nor a transcript documenting their participation in this workshop series. However, all participants will be awarded a certificate of completion and Professional Development points to apply to their professional development plans.
Fees & Policies:
Tuition includes all instructional materials. Participants receive a certificate of participation.
Registration closes at the start of the workshop. Refunds will only be granted up until the start of the workshop at 10:30am on August 10th. No refunds will be granted for registration or technical errors on the participant's part (such as incorrect name/email, login failure, etc.).
